Newsgroups
Newsgroups are bacically bulletin boards of the Internet. These
groups are separated by subject. Any person with Internet access
can post a message to the group. When you post a message, a copy
of it gets sent to various servers around the world. This enables
people to publicly communicate with each other over the Internet.
Each message has the potential to reach thousands of people who stop
by to read the electronic bulletin board. To read postings, you must
tell your Internet browser software that you would like to be able
to read specific newsgroup messages. This is called subscribing.
There is no cost to subscribe to a newsgroup and it is anonymous
to read the messages. It's basically telling your own computer to
stop by the bulletin board to read what's posted.
The newsgroup specific to Lyme Disease is: sci.med.diseases.lyme
To search through previous newsgroup posts, go to the web
page:
www.dejanews.com
This web page keeps a copy of every newsgroup posting ever
made on the Internet. As of 8/1/97, there are over 22,000 postings
specific to sci.med.diseases.lyme. Using the search filter command,
you can search through all the postings made to the Lyme newsgroup.
For example, you could search for every posting that contains
the word ``Antibiotics".
